Check out this comic book review.
Summary: Witchblade wielders Sara Pezzini and Dani Baptiste find themselves at odds over the fate of a girl Dani has taken on as a dance student. Could this be the end of their friendship and perhaps the start of something far more deadly? This issue sets the stage for a storyline that will change Sara, Dani and the Witchblade forever!
Review: Now that I have the entire Oprah cult glued to the screen—because they’re definitely the target audience here, of course—we can discuss a little Witchblade. The “Crown Heights” epilogue definitely proves to be an essential issue, as it leaves Sara Pezzini and Danielle Baptiste’s friendship in tatters, their world in jeopardy, and introduces the next foe by the end of the book.
Writer Ron Marz doesn’t waste any time putzing around to the girls’ falling-out. In fact, the very first page of the issue makes it pretty clear that these two Witchblade bearers are going their separate ways—and it had to be one hell of a catfight to inspire Sara to call Dani an “ungrateful little *beep*.”
Right? Okay, not exactly. But savvy readers of Witchblade will be able to figure out that the source of their conflict has to do with how the previous issue ended without even opening the comic. We find out in this issue that Dani went even more overboard than we first suspected. She’s definitely in dark waters and swimming with the sharks now—but she happened the drag Sara in with her.
Dani’s mistake could not only incriminate her, but it also threatens to expose the both of them for what they secretly are. To make matters worse, Sara is forced to disrespect everything she has dutifully stood for as a cop. She’s left with her trust betrayed and feeling like a hypocrite. Dani is just as upset, frustrated that her good intentions have not only been dismissed, but gone sour in the process. Talk about a bitter aftertaste.
Sara cleans up Dani’s mess, but now there are problems between them and—oh, look—lurking in the shadows, too. The question is, what effect will their separation have on the Witchblade? Will they be able to patch up their sister-like bond and work together before something even worse happens? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
